Bolivia has recently earned a reputation as the “Tibet of South America,” a bohemian haven for independent travelers, so close yet so far away from tourist-infested places like Machu Picchu and Rio de Janeiro. As these photos of Bolivia illustrate, Bolivia is a indeed country of otherworldly beauty. Although it was far from my favorite place I’ve traveled — the poverty and lack of infrastructure are frequently overwhelming — the country is definitely worth a visit, if only for the Salar de Uyuni “salt flats.”
